Cable & Wireless Outage
Cable and Wireless's data centre in Watford has been targeted by thieves who appear to have stolen a large quantity of cisco networking equipment. A number of major sites such as Sainsbury's appear to have been affected.
Customers often ask why they need to monitor their internet services.
As can be seen from the outages listed in this blog every company of every size is prone to outages pretty much regardless of the steps taken to try and prevent any such occurrences.
You can plan for most things but there are always influences you can not foresee or equipment that doesn't react like it should.
Failures can results from theft, flood or acts of god (or the law of sod) like lightening strikes.
In addition your services can face attack from hackers aiming to steal data, deface your website, steal your domain or just plain and simply disrupt your business.
Some people rely on their service provider to tell them when there is an issue. With the best will in the world this rarely works, first it is not in the interest of the service provider to tell you about problems and secondly they are usually too busy fighting the fires to have time to tell you, if they even have the capability to do so at that time.
We would always advise anyone who relies on their internet services to generate leads or income to have their services monitored by a reputable 3rd party.
